My top 5 Antarctic moments
- Exploring Antarctica at the very start of the season: November. I was on one of the first ships to arrive on the Peninsula when the landscapes were snowy and pristine.
- Relaxing in the top-deck Jacuzzi, cocktail in hand, with snow falling all around – especially enjoyable as someone who loves her creature comforts!
- Watching porpoising penguins return to land from the sea, ready to mate and nest. The water was almost bubbling with this magical migration.
- Gliding among icebergs in glorious sunshine as they were starting to break apart. It was like nature’s own art gallery.
- Spotting a dusky dolphin while I was alone on my balcony as we sailed through the Beagle Channel on the first day of my trip. It felt special to have this wild creature all to myself.

My top tip for travelling to Antarctica? Learn from a mistake I made on my first trip to the White Continent and invest in properly waterproof trousers for all those zodiac cruises.
