Enjoying Antarctica

I love how travel allows you to immerse yourself in the unexpected. I discovered this when I tobogganed down the Great Wall of China, saw a huge gathering of elephants in Kenya and zip-lined from the UAE’s largest mountain near Dubai!

Outside of Swoop, life is busy: I have four teenagers at various stages of school and university, so relaxing with a good book, taking a walk at the beach or enjoying a peaceful cuppa is essential and keeps me calm. Being a member of the National Trust, where I can visit heritage houses and beautiful gardens, means strolls with a touch of history are always in good supply, too.

My top 5 Antarctic experiences

Enjoying a landing on Danco Island, Antarctica

Enjoying a landing on Danco Island

  1. Arriving in Antarctica and seeing the vast backdrop of pure-white snow and towering icebergs for the first time. I completely fell in love with icebergs!
  2. Feeling the sheer power of a humpback whale as it changed direction and swam right underneath our zodiac in Fournier Bay
  3. Watching the antics at the penguin highway on Danco Island. I never knew how busy gentoo penguins could be
  4. Zodiac cruising through the ice at Neko Harbour, sighting sleek and powerful leopard seals under the magical sunlight
  5. Enjoying how different the scenery was each day and soaking up the sense of space and icy remoteness every time we changed locations
