Tell us about Ushuaia

We loved Ushuaia. The National Park was nice. We had a great Catamaran trip to see seals and birds. We easily rented a car at the airport and drove to the mountains on the road to Chile. It was stunning. lots to do here. A lovelt town.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Just take warm clothes and lots of gloves. They get wet. Spend the money on gortex waterproof gloves, or even better buy some lined rubber work gloves. Amazon has some that were the best among us. Most of our "waterproof" gloves were not even close to being waterproof. My hubby6 and one crew member had these: "100% Waterproof Gloves for Men and Women, Winter Work Gloves for Cold Weather, Touchsreen, Thermal Gloves for Freezer Work, Fishing and Gardening, With Grip, Orange." I ended buying gortex gloves at the ship shop. I had goggles that fit over my glasses It was sometimes splashy on the zodiak, and these saved my glasses. Also, for biosecurity, it's best not to have any velcro at the bottom of your waterproof pants. Velcro can pick up seeds and grasses. The muck boots they lend you are quite warm. With a liner merino wool sock and a thick pair of socks, my feet were never cold. I get sick on boats. I used the Scopaline patches and topped them up as needed with Bonine (Meclizine}. Neither are available in Canada, so I had to order the patches from New Zealand. I picked up Bonine in the US. But there is a clinic in Canada that does carry the Meclizine. The ship doctor has lots of Mecizine and also Phenergan, I think, I was surprisingly fine.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I wasn't sure about this trip. But I ended up loving it. We saw the iceberg A23a and 2 Blue Whales in a few hours. The wildlife was not concerned with us. It was a bit humbling for sure. I am also very glad I booked through Swoop.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

The team at Swoop is amazing. We had a challenging time, but everyone helped us, and everything worked out so well. Swoop made this whole vacation stress free. I would like to thank you so much.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

I was excited but nervous about being sick. I felt that Swoop's advice pages and webnar had me totally prepared.
