What was your most memorable moment?

Stepping off our zodiac boat onto Antarctic land for the first time and seeing two chinstrap penguins waddling towards us... We later explored Half Moon Island and saw three types of seals in addition to hundreds of penguins. Talk about a first impression!

Were Swoop right to recommend G Adventures?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Yes we enjoyed them more than we thought we would as they allowed us to explore coastlines or icebergs which otherwise we wouldn't be able to see. Including one memorable zodiac cruise where we saw 7 little penguins nestled within an incredibly blue ice shelf on an iceberg - this made the most stunning of photos! We also had a leopard seal swim around all of our zodiac boats on one excursion.

Tell us about the expedition team

They were so knowledgeable and friendly! Stand out staff included Mario the expedition leader. We recorded his morning wake-up call so we can reminisce in months to come! He gave us very thorough briefings before each expedition, and made the whole experience so fun. We also loved being on zodiac excursions with Matt who worked hard to make sure we saw all the animals possible! Other stand out staff included John, the on-board marine biologist, whose lectures were definitely our favourite. His passion for Antarctica was so evident! We also thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Lyn, the ornithologist, James and Eric (who took stunning photos and videos of people doing the polar plunge). It was a huge bonus having Mark the on-board photographer! A big shout out for Marfie who kept our cabin sparkling clean throughout, and was so friendly.

Tell us about the MS Expedition

It was so clean, great decks for viewing animals and Antarctic scenery, and the FOOD! Even on the last day the fruit was very fresh, and the food choices were varied. We never got bored of the food, of which there was so much! We would 100% choose this ship again.

Tell us about the Camping

We really enjoyed it especially as it was in a spot between two penguin colonies! Unfortunately it rained on the night we camped, so everything was a bit wet... but even with that we had a great experience.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Waterproof gear is a must! Talk to the expedition team and other passengers - they are fascinating!

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

It's made me even more aware of why we should look after Antarctica - the last untouched part of the planet.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Just a minor one that no one from the Swoop team seemed to have passed on the message to G Adventures, that it was our honeymoon. They weren't aware of it... but this is a minor point.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

Probably packed too many jumpers, but otherwise felt very prepared!
