Why we like the Island Sky

  • One of the most elegant small luxury expeditionary ship's in Antarctica
  • Her wooden panelling and polished brass gives the feeling of a private yacht
  • She was purpose built in Italy for exactly this type of expeditionary cruising and is ice strengthened
  • Only 112 guests aboard ensures there's plenty of space and that everyone can go ashore together
  • State-of-the-art retractable stabilisers which reduce roll by 80% help ensure sea days are comfortable
  • All of the suites are at least double the size of the average polar cabin. Some have French doors & balconies
  • Al fresco lunches can be enjoyed on the sun deck on sunny days, even in Antarctica
  • A convenient stern platform makes getting in & out of the zodiacs quick and easy
  • Newly renovated rear BBQ deck with outdoor heating and side walls - to make sitting out on deck irresistible

Walking around the Island Sky I felt as if I were on my own private yacht. The suites are huge, and the public spaces bright and airy. I especially liked the location of the exit doors, allowing you to get from the bar to the promenade in seconds if a humpback whale swims past!

It was a beautiful ship! Our rooms were really large. The food was delicious and the entire crew on the ship was so friendly. It's the perfect size ship to get to know pretty much everyone.

Swoop provided excellent service; they have a lot of experience in Antarctica and recommended me the perfect voyage. There were many discussions but they helped me narrow it down.
