Why we like the Island Sky

  • One of the most elegant small luxury expeditionary ship's in Antarctica
  • Her wooden panelling and polished brass gives the feeling of a private yacht
  • She was purpose built in Italy for exactly this type of expeditionary cruising and is ice strengthened
  • Only 108 guests aboard ensures there's plenty of space and that everyone can go ashore together
  • State-of-the-art retractable stabilisers which reduce roll by 80% help ensure sea days are comfortable
  • All of the suites are at least double the size of the average polar cabin. Some have French doors & balconies
  • Al fresco lunches can be enjoyed on the sun deck on sunny days, even in Antarctica
  • A convenient stern platform makes getting in & out of the zodiacs quick and easy
  • Newly renovated rear BBQ deck with outdoor heating and side walls - to make sitting out on deck irresistible

Walking around the Island Sky I felt as if I were on my own private yacht. The suites are huge, and the public spaces bright and airy. I especially liked the location of the exit doors, allowing you to get from the bar to the promenade in seconds if a humpback whale swims past!

What our customers think

There were 98 passengers on board the Island Sky and we were surprised by the age range, 22 to 78 with an average of 62. It made for a wonderful atmosphere with people mixing to chat and eat together.

My wife is more of the adventurous type and I'm more of the resort type. The trip on the Island Sky with the expedition team exceeded both of our expectations.

It was a beautiful ship! Our rooms were really large. The food was delicious and the entire crew on the ship was so friendly. It's the perfect size ship to get to know pretty much everyone.

I loved the Island Sky; it was large enough to supply everything we needed yet small enough to provide warmth and cosiness that allowed 108 travellers to meld together like a family.

The Island Sky is definitely the ship to go on (or it's sister ship).

Swoop provided excellent service; they have a lot of experience in Antarctica and recommended me the perfect voyage. There were many discussions but they helped me narrow it down.
