Who are Poseidon Expeditions?
Poseidon Expeditions were founded in the UK in 1999, running expedition cruises to the Arctic using Russian icebreakers. They led their first Antarctic cruise in 2014, and have continued to operate successfully in southern polar waters since then.
Poseidon describe themselves as operating ‘old school’ expedition cruising. They operate just one ship in Antarctica, the Sea Spirit, which is a classic polar ship with traditional maritime stylings that’s small and highly manoeuvrable. Capped at just over 100 berth, it’s quick to disembark every guest into zodiacs to allow them to spend the maximum time off the ship amid the Antarctic scenery and wildlife.

The Sea Spirit is a beautiful ship and feels very luxurious. The ship and hotel staff were attentive and friendly and as for the food, well it was simply divine! The expedition crew were super friendly, incredibly talented, knowledgeable and inspiring. Our fellow passengers were diverse and we’ve made lots of new friends who we will forever share a special bond with.
