Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Always felt safe, just had to follow their instructions and things went very smoothly. Afternoon with the humpback whales in the Weddle Sea
Tell us about the expedition team
Knowledgable and excited as well as friendly and accommodating. Christian and Dot were exceptional. Vicki (birds mainly) and Heather (geology) were also particularly delightful
Tell us about the Sylvia Earle
Cabin was very comfortable, staff were very friendly, accommodating and courteous. Food was glorious and there were plenty of healthy choices. Yes I would choose Sylvia Earle again. The ship felt very steady and was very comfortable.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Aurora Expeditions, particularly sailing on Syliva Earle is an ideal way to access Antarctica. Small passenger numbers, careful expedition crew. Huge privilege to be have the opportunity to visit Antarctica in such comfort with access to so many places and experiences.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
It may have me reviewing my tendancy to worry before the fact. Everything about the cruise was terrific - even the Polar Plunge.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Only point I would like to make for Swoop is that the sound quality and speed of speech during information webinars prior to the trip rendered them very difficult and less engaging and informative than they could have been. Attention to diction and clarity of sound may be useful. Remember much of the demographic is hovering above 60 just to be in a position to afford the trip so audio is really important for that audience. Also the tendancy of some people to speak about very interesting things as though they are reciting a shopping list is irritating, takes away from the content and is potentially condescending to the audience.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
Once we were underway we understood were very prepared. We were anxious prior despite having following the packing instructions and badgered Burnham repeatedly about the details.
