Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

1) There should be more chances to do mountaineering excursions. We purchased 2 pairs of boots for glacier hiking (over $600) that we'll never use again and did not have a chance to use them. Some guests got 2 opportunities for mountaineering and even though we tried very hard, could not get on a real mountaineering excursion. 2) Definitely have the waterproof outerwear, but we did not experience the extreme cold. Layers were very important, you'll only need one layer on some days and other times need a winter coat. Always have sunscreen! 3) Do all the excursions!! Camping, kayaking, hiking, etc. were all different and spectacular!! Zodiac excursions were excellent, too!

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

We did not receive Swoop buffs for the trip (4 of us in our group) while all the others did. Not all mountaineering excursions need those pricey glacier boots. Most can use the Mucking Boots that are provided . The ship’s guides told us the first people to sign up for the trip got first choice for the mountaineering excursions. Other people were chosen to get the second excursion and didn't seem to be a valid reason.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I'm happy to realize with increased tourism to Antarctica, they have strict environmental rules and pass their concern to the passengers. I'll definitely be more concerned about what goes on there....
