This Chilean base in Antarctica is commonly used for its landing strip by many Antarctic cruise operators. Passengers embark and disembark here usually spending between 4 - 17 days in Antarctica.

The base itself lies within the Fildes Peninsula, slightly west on King George Island in the South Shetland Islands. It's also Chile's most important Antarctic research base as it lies in the area which is the Antarctic territory claimed by Chile.
