What was your most memorable moment?

I describe this adventure as going to the moon and back. Of course, a trip like this is very weather dependent - but our weather could not have been any more perfect! Our expedition leader, Sarah, was determined to get us off the ship as much as possible. She only wanted to share her knowledge and the beauty around us. Her enthusiasm was infectious. We had 17 landings and 2 cancelled landings, of which one was substituted for a zodiac excursion so we didn't miss the penguin colony. So you ask what was my most memorable moment - every day, every longing, every guide, every lecture was memorable. This was an other worldly experience.

Which of the following best describes your adventure?

Were Swoop right to recommend Oceanwide Expeditions?

Yes

Tell us about the wildlife

Spending 20 days with the abundance of wildlife we experienced convinced me that penguins should be at the top of the food chain - not humans. They really have the life - and penguins just make you smile.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

All always felt safe - our expedition leader always had safety first - and we trusted her to make decisions. Most memorable was watching a leopard seal capture, kill and devour a gentoo penguin. Very sad but survival of the fittest. Better than being killed with a gun.

Tell us about the expedition team

Lead by Sarah and assisted by Adam - we couldn't have been in better hands. Elizabeth, Felicity, and Jess exuded enthusiasm and made every moment feel special. Their knowledge, along with Hazel's really gave us an excellent foundation of knowledge. These guides became friends who took care of you. They only wanted us to see as much as possible - and have fun on Christmas Eve, Day and New Years. The team really made those days special.

Tell us about the Ortelius

Loved the unpretentiousness of the ship. The lecture room downstairs should be remodeled - stuffy and closed in - but loved the bar, cabins, the decks, the bridge (loved our captain!!!) and the helipad.

Something Else?

We were very lucky.

Not to worry when you don't respond immediately. You seem to have a bit of a delay and of course we are anxious about such a big endeavor - but questions are always answered.

It has confirmed my perspective about nature - we humans need to pay attention to nature.
