What was your most memorable moment?

The landings on Antarctica, coupled with the zodiac cruises in the area, were quite memorable. We had numerous whale sightings while cruising and the icebergs were incredible.

How was your experience getting to and from Chile/Argentina?

Our experience was good. We did book our own flights coming and going and spend time in Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. We were easily able to manage the COVID requirements.

How was your experience travelling through Chile/Argentina?

We had an enjoyable time in Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. Both parts of Argentina are quite different and pleasuable.

How did it feel to be one of the first travellers to visit Antarctica after the pandemic?

Special and unique. And possible "relieved" after all the waiting!

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

We enjoyed these and managed them well despite the challenging (at times) loading and unloading. They felt very safe and in general we managed the periodic "bath" from the process of traveling in zodiacs pretty well.

Tell us about the expedition team

We can't say enough good things about the entire team from the direct support staff to the onboard staff. They were all friendly, helpful, informed, and knowledgeable.

Tell us about the Hondius

Hondius is a great boat. The onboard food was outstanding and more than plentiful. Our cabin on the sixth deck was wonderful and we were glad we had chosen a larger option since we spent a fair amount of time in there on sea days.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Weather varies widely. We took too many clothes since we were quite worried about the cold. While it was cold, we were sometimes overdressed. We did plan well for the zodiac trips which can be splashy and sometimes downright wet depending on conditions. Likewise, boarding and off-boarding a zodiac in rough weather can be a bit tricky, but the crew managed it well.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I am more aware than ever of the impact of climate change on our planet.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Great team! Keep up the good work!

How helpful was the information we shared with you, in your Adventure Planner, before your trip? Such as ‘Getting to Antarctica’ and ‘What to wear in Antarctica’. Was there anything missing?

It was all helpful.

Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?

Nothing comes to mind at this time.
