We had amazingly good luck with weather and were able to make about 10 excursions from the ship. The encounters with the whales were just incredibly wonderful. The icebergs and bergy bits were artistic, majestic, noisy, imaginative and splendid. I think we met people from nearly 20 different countries aboard ship. The crew were all friendly, competent, attentive and knowledgeable. I learned a great deal about history, geography, birds and penguins. Drake's passage is long even in good weather.

Sailing through the Gunnel Channel into "The Gullet", past the Antarctic Circle and doing the toast to the words of Captian James Cook as we stamped ourselves with circles. Then kayaking in the Horseshoe Island area and stepping foot on the contenient.

The Zodiac rides where (1) we were in the middle of three humpback whales for 30-45 minutes as they circled and approached our Zodiac, getting no more than 6 feet away from us, and (2) we were watching 15-20 seals playing near an iceberg that lost a portion of ice at one end and then began rotating and turning as we watched this rare and memorable sight.

There isn't one. It was like being in a David Attenborough Nature programme. It was amazing. At one point I was leaning over the side of a Zodiac with my camera in my hand & I actually said out load: 'I don't want to go home'. So much wildlife - penguins, sea birds, whales, dolphins - and beautiful icebergs that were all different. Nature is so beautiful & a brilliant artist. Add to that the wonderful scenery & you are in heaven. Loved it.

Overall, and underall and in between, it was fabulous. Kayaking was the highlight, though it was pretty exciting to see baby penguins. Landscape, particularly the icebergs, was sublime, surreal, dramatic, transcendental, magical. Wildlife was a hoot, never got tired of penguins or seals. The people we met were fine. When you said we'd see "a lot" of penguins, I didn't quite grasp just how many that would be or how close we'd get to them ... a pleasant surprise. Biggest surprise was just luck -- the phenomenal weather.

Near the end of the cruise we sailed into a little bay in the Antarctic Sound...there were mountains, ice bergs in the bay, penguins, whales in the distance, rolling hills, sun and clouds and so very many shades of blue and white on the ice. In short it was the single perfect moment with all the elements that we were enjoying coming together in one spot. And we were able to sit in the snow for the first time and we took some awesome pics there. It was what I call a perfect moment.

Meeting Swoop’s Michael Battley! Michael was such a lifesaver when it came to getting me and my sister to even come on this trip after struggles with the Chilean mobility pass. He stayed with us on the phone every step of the way and I could not be more grateful. Beyond traveling mishaps, Michael turned out to be a great friend as well! He was one of the best parts of this trip.

They are are too many but these are some of the top 3. Seeing 100’s of Finn Whales surround our ship. Seeing Leopard Seal catch a penguin, seeing the Ocra Whales hunting right around our ship.

I expected beautiful scenery and it didn’t disappoint but I was overwhelmed with how many whales encounter we had, I cried because I tried and paid to see whales in at least 3 different countries and saw none, the penguins are of course hilarious and made me laugh. Coming to Antarctica in March was key.

Impossible to identify any one moment as there were so many each day. Perhaps the first sight of the Antarctic after we woke up on Saturday morning, but really everything was a highlight.
