What was your most memorable moment?

There isn't one. It was like being in a David Attenborough Nature programme. It was amazing. At one point I was leaning over the side of a Zodiac with my camera in my hand & I actually said out load: 'I don't want to go home'. So much wildlife - penguins, sea birds, whales, dolphins - and beautiful icebergs that were all different. Nature is so beautiful & a brilliant artist. Add to that the wonderful scenery & you are in heaven. Loved it.

Tell us about the expedition team

The Expedition Team were definitely knowledgeable & friendly, one even told me that he liked working for Aurora because they allowed all of the staff to 'be themselves'. The team were happy to answer any questions, working as a team by passing questions to the most appropriate member whenever necessary. It would be unfair to name anyone above the others, or to choose a favourite lecture. They all contributed to the success of my holiday.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

The Zodiac cruises allowed you to see different things more closely. The Expedition Team drove the Zodiacs safely & ensured all aboard acted in a safe way. They selected the route of the cruise to ensure everyone's safety & to enable us to gain the best experience possible. The Expedition Team & Ship's Crew worked together to ensure embarkation & disembarkation (to & from the ship & the shore) were undertaken safely.

Tell us about the Sylvia Earle

The ship is new & the design makes it extremely stable. We had fantastic weather for the majority of the trip. However, I was extremely glad of the ship's capability when we had to out-run a storm! I had no real expectations, so was not disappointed. Considering we were at sea for in excess of 3 weeks, I think they did very well with the food. I would definitely choose the Sylvia Earle again.

Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?

Yes

Something Else?

I think that's all.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Read ALL of the information carefully - do not speed-read it. Do it before you book. Ask questions, if you require additional information. Do not assume anything or have expectations that cannot be guaranteed. The weather & wildlife may have other ideas. It is a cruise, but nothing like the cruises most people experience. Be prepared for rough seas and for the ship to shore being by Zodiac. Be prepared to accept the beauty of whatever Mother Nature presents you with & it'll be fantastic.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Not really.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I think the biggest issue some on the holiday had was travelling on the Zodiacs, especially when the sea was not as calm as they would have liked. I was surprised how many people stayed on board the ship at times. I am guessing that the reasons would be a combination of reduced stability & feeling a little sea-sick. Bearing in mind the fact that you are there to sell holidays, so do not want to put people off, I would suggest that you need to make sure they are aware of the wobbly world they are heading for - just in case they haven't read enough of the information you provide on your website.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

I felt I was as prepared as I could be for the holiday. Excitement? My holiday was a 'COVID casualty', plus it wasn't guaranteed until I passed the pre-embarkation COVID test in Ushuaia. Therefore, my excitement was a little muted. Under different circumstances, I would have been extremely excited.
