We were in the South Georgia Islands on on Christmas day. It was snowing/sleeting and the swell was almost two meters. The expedition team were skilled at getting my friends and I getting into the zodiac and touring us along the shore line to see macaroni penguins, fur seals, gentoo penguins, elephant seals and Weddell seals up close and personal. It was certainly a Christmas I will never forget.

There were so many memorable moments! If I had to choose, it would be our days in Antarctica, the hike to the caldera on Penguin Island, our first landing on the continent, the hikes to the top of hills for magnificent views, the zodiac cruises to see wildlife and icebergs. Getting to see the wildlife in their natural habitat was nothing short of amazing!

A perfect day on Stonington Island. The temperature was about 45*F, no wind, and bright sun. We were off ship to go visit the earliest remaining US Antarctic Camp (circa 1940). The magic started as we headed back. The Greg Mortimer was in this small bay waiting for all the zodiacs to get back to ship. We were in no hurry... but heading back, the floating sheet ice was continually moving with the current and making a "jigsaw puzzle" effect in the entire bay. None of the 5 zodiacs could follow the same path back. It was such a surreal feeling zig-zagging back and forth through the sheet ice... each zodiac finding its own path in the quiet and still bay. No one spoke... no one wanted to break the magic.

There were so many. One really incredible one was when a minke whale played near the zodiacs for over an hour, coming up to look at us and even breathing on us

ALL OF IT!! Kayaking with humpback whales, seeing some much wildlife, the indescribable landscapes, the overwhelming awe, the incredible captain, staff, and crew, and all the open minded and flexible passengers who brought so much positive energy to the experience.

Too many to mention them all. We were so close at times to bubble-net-feeding humpbacks in our Zodiak, I could not fit the huge heads in my photo frame! We sailed through a "conference" of orcas about 50 strong; one swam under the Ortelius (our ship) and popped up right under where I was standing. I gained a deeper appreciation for the athleticism and resourcefulness of gentoo, chinstrip and Adelie penguins. The blue-eyed shags were a hoot with the crazy necking courtship dances. Even more impressive were the people. The guides, crew and staff were super helpful and worked hard to make as many adventures possible while keeping us safe. I enjoyed the camping in a snow pit, kayaking through brash ice, snowshoeing in blizzard conditions, the polar plunge, the photo workshops, the many related talks about wildlife, glaciers, avalanches, history. I especially liked being included in viewing the weather forecast maps. The travelers (about 113 from 20 countries, I heard) were as excited and enthusiastic about our adventures as I was. I have found a new "tribe" to which I am proud to belong.

Seeing orcas swimming around our boat, seeing the beautiful landscape, and enjoying the penguins. Polar plunge was very memorable as well. Enjoyed meeting new people on the ship.

Wow! Where to start? Maybe it was the Orca whales swimming around the boat for 30 minutes? Maybe it was the Humpback whale that breached several times. The leopard seal and that terrifying yawn / grin was impressive. Hundreds and thousands of penguins; they are almost as fun to watch walking as it is to watch them swim! The icebergs are overwhelming in size.

The vastness of Antarctica - the landscapes of mountains, icebergs were mind blowing. And then add in amazing wildlife - just wow! There truly aren't adequate words.
