The moment shortly after boarding and I found out that I had paid $10,000 more than other solo travelers choosing their own room. Apparently the ship waived the solo supplement but Swoop was not in the loop.

When they cancelled our flight back because the runway was not safe to land the trip was ruined. They had no other backup plan to get us safely off Antarctica. We are currently rocking and rolling in the Drake Passage on the Nova and won’t be home for at least 3 more days. All our reservations to get home had to be cancelled and rebooked. At the least we’re spending another $3-5K to get new reservations to get home. No one so far is offering to compensate us for our troubles. The only reason we booked this trip with Antarctica21 was to avoid the Drake Passage. That was their selling point and they blew it. My wife has been sea sick ever since we started sailing north and we won’t be off the boat until Friday, if then. The wildlife and landscapes were definitely the highlights. The demographic of the passengers was as expected. The biggest surprise was probably the quality of the food.

The highlights were all the penguin chicks at Petermann island and going through the Lamaire channel. The wildlife was amazing, especially the penguins and crab eater seals. I had a wonderful roommate and met several nice people, with whom I will keep in touch with. I was shocked how the ship operator's staff allowed the other passengers to be agressive and bully others when trying to take photos.

Bailey head and Spork Island. Indescribable. The wildlife we were able to see was a gift from God. The whales took our breath away. We all froze when one went under our Zodiac ;) Everyone was friendly. I happened to bring one of my grandchildren who has been obsessed with Penguins her entire existence and it was the best gift of her life. The new years celebration. The BBQ was awesome and to countdown in the middle of ice was a privilege with the beauty of the midnight sun.
