There was one excursion, Jenny Island, where we were excited to get off the ship and stretch our legs for a proper hike, but we came across many dead shags and a few dead elephant seals -- casualties of the avian flu. The excursion was cancelled, and in the subsequent briefing about the seriousness of avian flu, it felt like the trip took a somber turn and wouldn't have the same thrilling joy of discovery again. But the expedition team went ABOVE AND BEYOND and found us a post-dinner landing spot on Bongrain point that turned out to be my absolute favorite spot on the trip. Maybe it was just feeling like we had been gifted something that no one was expecting, or the glacier we were able to hike to, or the Adelie chicks. It definitely had something to do with that late evening light turning the icy peaks soft and luminous too. It was pure magic.

It is impossible to pick one moment. Seeing the first iceberg, watching penguins make their way up steep slopes to their rookeries, Getting roped up to go snowshoeing, easing over the side of the Zodiac to go snorkeling, tasting the salt water as we kayaked, all are embedded in my memory.

I still have a post trip "buzz" and there are simply too many memorable moments to recall on my month long trip to Patagonia and Antarctica - hiking onto the Grey Glacier looking into the Patagonian ice sheet, seeing the Torres del Paine or Fitzroy ranges in the flesh for the first time, or being blown away by the sheer size and immensity of the Antarctic glaciers and ice sheets and the abundance of whales and wildlife. Moving doesn't describe it.

One of the most memorable moments of the entire trip was standing at St Andrews Bay, surrounded by tens of thousands of king penguins stretching to the horizon — a living, moving landscape that felt almost unreal in its scale and intensity. Another highlight was our perfect morning on Half Moon Island, with clear skies, crisp air, and a lively chinstrap penguin colony scattered across the snow, framed by bright sunlight and sweeping views of bays and distant glaciers. And in South Georgia, the elephant seal colonies offered an unforgettable experience of their own: massive beachmasters bellowing from the shore, younger males testing their luck at the edges, and pups calling from the grass — a raw and ancient drama unfolding just a few meters away.

This is hard to pick. I've been to Antarctica before, but it was amazing to be back. South Georgia, on the other hand, feels like from a different planet. Seeing King Penguins for the first time cannot be described, and having them walking around us, following us, interacting with us ... I still can't believe to have witnessed this.
