Introducing Silversea's innovative new hotel

A carefree start to your Antarctic adventure

The Cormorant at 55 South

Silversea has always excelled in crafting perfectly orchestrated journeys to the White Continent, with a particular emphasis on providing hassle-free logistics before and after your expedition cruise. On arrival in Chile, your cruise package includes a night at a 5* hotel in Santiago, the country's capital. For travellers flying to Antarctica, the following morning a flight to the nation's southernmost town reaches puts you in prime position, ready to take your charter plane to Antarctica a day later.

From January 2026 a complimentary overnight stay at The Cormorant at 55 South in between these flights will add further comfort and tranquility to your adventure.

An intuitive addition to the fly-cruise itinerary

After your early morning flight from the lively capital of Santiago lands in the sleepy town of Puerto Williams, you'll glide through a swift transfer between the airport and The Cormorant at 55 South. The drive clocks in at just under three minutes. This speedy connection is a distinct advantage over the 45-minute ride from the terminal into the much busier city of Punta Arenas, where many other Antarctic fly-cruise operations are based.

The next morning, your dedicated on-the-ground team will keep you informed of the anticipated timings for your flight to Antarctica’s King George Island. The seventh continent's mercurial weather can sometimes cause delays, but Silversea ensures you’re never left languishing in a crowded airport terminal. Instead, you’ll continue to rest in the comfort of The Cormorant at 55 South, right up until your two-hour flight to Antarctica is almost ready to depart.

I'm in awe at how Silversea has managed to construct such an iconic landmark in so remote a destination. Built in Mendoza and transported over 2,200 miles to Chile’s southernmost province, the modular building is a feat of contemporary engineering.

It's all in the details

Deeply influenced by the ancestral camps of the area's indigenous Yahgan people and brought to life by a Patagonia-based architect, the hotel also reflects the beauty of its setting with a host of natural woods and earth tones throughout.

Guest rooms overlooking the rich green forest views or glittering water are designed to echo ship cabins, providing a seamless sense of continuity before you embark on your Silversea voyage. It’s this hallmark attention to detail that ensures nothing is overlooked – even the hotel’s name has been carefully considered, paying tribute to its position at 55° South and the cormorant, a bird long referred to as the seafarer’s symbol of fortune.
