On shore excursions I often wished for a short guided walk with someone who could give more insight on the geology and animals.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
I did a sail in fly out cruise. I planned an extra day for each of my flights back home to allow for delays. For one day, it looked as if I would still miss my flights, then our flight out of Antarctica got back on schedule. I knew the fly out option was risky, but I did not fully grasp that “not on schedule” usually means they are not flying at all for a day, or longer. Some folks on our cruise canceled flights based on the early information, and then had problems rebooking. We met people in Punta Arenas that were never able to start their fly in cruises. Your clients may need some more coaching on this subject.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
This was the most visually impactful trip of my life. There is still a beautiful, magical, unspoiled place in the world!
