MS Expedition

Overall, how was your trip?

Having had a rocky start with our first planned ship our G experiences on the MS Expedition was way beyond our expectations. We give the total experience 10/10. The standards on the ship were exceptional from the cleaning staff, the variety and excellence of of food and their ever smiling, genuine staff, the comfort of the dining and entertainment bar. The zodiac team were exceptionally careful in all sorts of weather, the professional, expert team gave us amazing information and planned our days and the itinerary diverted around extreme weather events beautifully. The range of ages, singles and couples were all very relaxed and everyone mixed around and no pretension. All enthusiastic, avid travellers. We were exceptionally lucky with divine weather in the Falklands and South Georgia and a calm Drake. Wonderful snowing days in Antarctica with often sky blue times when on the zodiacs. Saw every wildlife, birds and some humpbacks, super close.

In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?

This unique experience, the diversity of wildlife, dramatic scenery and awe inspiring snow, cloud, land and water experiences is like no other we have experienced.

How was the service that Swoop provided?

Thank you John and Amanda, for your instant follow up and advice. Yes, your polar experience was invaluable John. We had such a smooth trip because of it, great guidance on Ushuaia and Buenos Aires and we fitted in a trip to the Tigre Delta. We met other fellow Ioffe planned first option travellers who all agreed that our second choice trip on the MS Expedition was even better. We would suggest that the latter warrants moving up the line of recommended ships. The captain and team leaders were exceptional on our trip.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Your own mobility is an issue on roughish seas and the zodiac teams help immensely. We managed Ok. When travelling on slippery or soft snow, poles or crampons(?) would be safer for those with little experience in snow. We had an unusually high level of snow in Antarctica penguin colonies.

Anything else? Tell us anything you’d like to share that we forgot to ask! It’s ok to leave this empty too :-)

Maybe, but not for some time. We’re not non stop travellers and have mini grandkids that we like to spend time with. Too soon to think about the above.
