Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?

Yes

Tell us about the wildlife

We were not expecting too much wildlife as this expedition is about the wilderness. However we saw lots of different penguins in breeding colonies, and whales and seals, and birds. This is not the trip for you if wildlife is the most important factor

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

We had far more zodiac cruises than i thought we would. It is the best way to see the icebergs and the whales

Tell us about the expedition team

Howard - Expedition Leader: just great. Tried to get us to remote places and explore. Rodger - incredible knowledge of wildlife in Antarctica. So calm. Patient Ian - wildlife expert. Again, keen to share knowledge, calm Nina - history expert and advocate of Antarctic protection. So knowledgable and enthusiastic

Tell us about the Sylvia Earle

Cant imagine choosing another ship! Our cabin was better than expected. The size of the ship was big enough to tackle the crossing but small enough that we could all get ashore every day. No frills, easy flow. The food was good - would have liked more fresh vegetables and interesting salads - it was bit carb heavy?

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Leave a lot of spare time either side of ship departure and return. Everyone we met had had travel plans disrupted! And not just in Argentina, although the south american airline companies change and cancel flights every few weeks it seems! We wish we had taken hiking shoes as whilst in Ushaia there is very little to do without them. And you have to allow quite a lot of time there

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

Very prepared. We were given all the information we needed for packing
