Were Swoop right to recommend Poseidon?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Yes, I did enjoy them and did feel safe at all times. Most memorable one was the most southerly one during which we saw (at last) the leopard seal.

Tell us about the expedition team

See above comments about wide range of knowledge. All very friendly. Some drove the zodiacws at higher speeds than others. The best at keeping her passengers dry was Martha. Vadim gave the most interesting lecture.

Tell us about the Sea Spirit

I was very happy with the ship. I booked a triple shared cabin and was lucky to share it only with one person. So nobody had to sleep on the couch. It would have been rather "cosy" had there been three of us. I enjoyed the time out on decks and it was good that on one deck we could walk all around the ship, so could see what there was to see no matter where it was in relation to the boat. The food was excellent - I just wish people wouldn't keep offering me cake so often! (I have a waistline to think about) Good variety. Great barbecue on deck. Breakfast also outstanding. Full marks to the catering staff.

Tell us about Ushuaia

I'd seen Ushuaia before. It was OK. The Arakur Hotel is good - except that it is so far out of town.

Something Else?

I also went to Ecocamp in Torres del Paine and enjoyed that. Leaders were friendly and accommodating to my slow pace.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Yes. It makes no sense to do the short trip missing out the Falklands and South Georgia. You would have four days at sea. Why not make it seven and see far more? Also, I would suggest not going in the next year or two but waiting until avian flu has done its worst. It's a once in a lifetime trip for most people and it's a shame if it is marred by having landings cancelled as happened to us.
