Antarctic Sound
The Antarctic Sound is the body of water between Trinity Peninsula, at the Northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, and Joinville Island. It got its name from Carl Anton Larsen's expedition vessel 'Antarctic', the first ship to navigate it.
The Sound is often crossed en route to the Weddell Sea, the location of Sir Ernest Shackleton's infamous Antarctic Expedition which ended with the tragic loss of several crew members and their ship 'Endurance' in 1915.
