My Antarctic Stats
Began working in travel: 2005
Antarctic activities tested: Camping, Kayaking, Citizen Science
Polar plunges braved: 2
My top Antarctic experiences
- Kayaking at Hope Bay, being eye level with hundreds of Adelie penguins either porpoising around my kayak or peering down at me from icebergs
- A silent zodiac cruise in the stunning Chiriguano Bay with that silence only broken by the fizz and pop of brash ice and the chatter of gentoo penguins
- Having our ship surrounded by curious orca outside of Deception Island. We counted over 40 of them before realising there were too many to count, plus a fin whale too!
- Being woken up by a humpback whale blow a short distance from my cosy camping spot at Kerr Point
- Experiencing the dramatic Deception Island in a snow blizzard. It’s such an atmospheric place, steeped in history, and with just a narrow entrance into the submerged volcano crater called "Neptune’s Bellows" it needs expert navigation by the Bridge team to squeeze through. Our landing party were greeted by a line up of penguins standing on the black volcanic shore with steam rising around them, it was stunning!

More about me
- In 2005 I left my IT background to go lead trips in the Middle East for what I thought would be 1 year. I got back to the UK 7 years later via various continents and continued to work in the travel industry
- Previously known as 'Queen of the Desert' because of my passion for the Middle East and Africa, I became ice obsessed after my first polar voyage where I had a life changing moment that I really didn’t see coming
- I previously worked as a tour leader and guide in some of the most unique (and challenging) corners of the globe and love talking to travellers about the history, culture and wildlife of a destination
- My favourite bird to spot en route to Antarctica is the black-browed albatross because of its amusingly angry look!
