What was your most memorable moment?

The entire adventure was tremendous. It's one of the hardest trips I've been on to identify a single "this is the top" moment, so I'll give three examples. 1) We were caught in the middle of what the Polar Latitudes team called a "Super Pod" of humpback whales, 100+, just playing and showing their flukes and bubble netting. It was stunning to see in person. 2) A large pod of Orcas hunted penguins directly next to our ship. No more than a meter or two off of the ships port side. Mother nature is truly powerful 3) The ice! All of the ice. It is so pretty and unique and hard to understand and also very simple at the same time. Wow.

Were Swoop right to recommend Polar Latitudes?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

I liked them but I am much more risk tolerant so I would have preferred a more "adventurous" experience. If there was a trip where they only allowed more "tolerance" at the result of signing more waivers or waiving all safety, I'd 100% be in on that :-)

Tell us about the expedition team

The expedition team was nice and friendly, but they didn't interact with the group as often during non-expedition times. Our ship did have 2 external science groups, WHOI and Oceanities, that were AMAZING. They were sitting with us almost the entire time, answering questions and interacting with the passengers, and had a wealth of knowledge. I'm really glad they were on the ship.

Tell us about the Seaventure

Seaventure was great. Small but mighty. And just the right amount of creature comforts for me, I didn't need anything else more luxury oriented and appreciated it's "purpose built" layout. The food was onpar with expectations, it wasn't amazing but it was still really nice. The room definitely felt dated, but I was hardly in there so it didn't matter anyways.

Tell us about the Paddling

This was fine, I'm glad I did it but it didn't "make or break" my trip.

Something Else?

The passengers, they were amazing. As a solo traveler, the people you are interacting with have a massive impact on the adventure. I was able to chat with all walks of life from all over the world, and this was part of what made my trip so great.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Do it! If you're thinking about it or wavering on if it will be worth it, it 100% will be. Also, plan to spend an extra full day in Ushuaia and go check out the surrounding area. I didn't do that and that's my only single tiny regret.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I believe travel is the most true form of education. And this trip is no exception. The world is so vast and we are so small, and realizing this is important. It helps you to understand to not sweat the little things and just enjoy as much of every day as you can. Take in the beauty, enjoy the small moments, and appreciate how amazing it is to be where you are.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Swoop team was great! It's weird not talking directly to the team that is taking me on the adventure, but I just put trust in Swoop and everything worked smoothly.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

I was as prepared as I could be and my excitement was exactly where it needed to be.
