Tell us about the expedition team
The team was the highlight of the trip. So knowledgeable and it was great to get to know them outside of excursions. One thing I loved is how the staff would sit with you at meals and you get to know them on another level.
Tell us about the World Explorer
Perfect boat. Room was comfortable the food was next level. Great hang out spots. The mud room is very useful. I guess if I had to say anything I wish there was a bigger hot tub and sauna for more people to use.
Tell us about the Camping
I was nervous about the camping but really enjoyed it. Something I wish I had known was that Quark would organize the toilet. I thought I was responsible for buying something. They also supplied all the beding and equipement. I actually slept quite well. Not sure I think it's worth $500 USD, but it was a good experience.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
I wish I had known the boat is a very comfortable temperature. People were even at meals in shorts. I brought so much cold weather clothing, I ended up buying tshirts on board.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I thought Antarctica was a one and done experience, now I know I've scratched the surface and want to go back to see other parts.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
I asked a question about dressing up for New Years and it took way too long to hear back. I think the part that Quark needs to improve is the arrival and departure day. I would suggest building into the trip handing over the bag and then the excursion to the national park. On departure day, I know there is a chance that your trip back might be delayed, but how normal is that. ... we arrived back the night before and stayed on the ship. Having the whole day in USH to wait was a disappointment and then being told transport was included but then told only if you are leaving boat directly to airport was confusing when we were advisised to take a later flight.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
I felt prepared. I travel a lot, so my excitement was more on arrival.
