Tell us about the expedition team
Nobody ever asked me or my husband simple questions like ‘ Are you enjoying your trip?, how did you like your excursion today’?etc. Nobody in the team tried to make us comfortable and welcome. (exception was Ana, Brazilian like us and naturally friendly.) I spoke to Lu once, I wanted to go back to the ship and told him so. His reply was ‘nobody is going back to the ship now, you have a cruise once we finish here’. He didn’t ask ‘Are you ok? Why do you want to go back to the ship? He totally ignored us. I saw ageism in the team. They would interact with younger people. I was not the only person to feel that way. Some older people felt just like we did, so I decided to write to you here. To remind the team that older people were the majority of guests. Older people pay their salaries. I’d like to remark that the attitudes of the team did not affect our trip, not our mood. We loved the trip. But I felt I had to write also because I am an anti-ageism activist. I am an Airbus 350 turbine engineer and it’s amazing how the atmosphere in this engineering field is opposite to that of your team.
