What was your most memorable moment?
The first day in the kayaks when we went out in the ice berg fields then met the wildlife. I have never been so close to these types of animals or to blocks of ice that could kill me in a blink of an eye. Just the size and the vastness of everything made me feel so small.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions
The cruises were great! Tried to avoid them because we wanted kayaking but never did it feel unsafe. Our drivers would tell us lots of interesting bits and even helped us explore the wildlife when they came up to visit.
Tell us about the expedition team
Staff was great. The first day was hard because I got matched with an inexperienced kayaker and I was quite mad about that. However they did try to get me a single Kayak when available.
Tell us about the Sylvia Earle
Nice accommodations, cozy atmosphere, very functional rooms. Food did not quite follow the food preference sheet that I provided. Had to send food back because it was not as ordered and had specific items I could not eat.
Tell us about the Kayaking
This is hard, I did end up enjoying the kayaking. But it was misleading about the experience required. I got stuck twice with people who had no kayaking experience that made the outings irritating. Like I would have been happy to quit and fight for the money back level bad. If I knew they were going to be doubles kayaks, I would not have taken the option.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
If you have actual experience paddling or kayaking and you are a solo traveler, DO NOT DO IT. you end up responsible for an inexperienced paddler and you will be angry the whole time.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Be honest that the paddling and kayaking is a two person slot. It was really hard to get excited for the experiences when I knew I was going out in a double. No chance for pictures, had to paddle the dead weight around, and got too tired too fast.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
I was almost over prepared and very excited.
