Tell us about Zodiac excursions
I loved the zodiac cruises! Being right there on the water against the ice chunks and icebergs was unlike anything I could've ever imagined!
Tell us about the expedition team
Phenomenal phenomenal phenomenal! EVERYONE was amazing and knowledgeable and so courteous and even their prior work before the ship led to great conversations. We had an amazing time learning about an array of things! So many amazing people on board, it's hard to choose just one!
Tell us about the Ocean Albatros
The ship was amazing! It was so easy to navigate and we had the perfect room in 422. Everyone had to pass our room to get to the mudroom and we brought magnetic scrabble tiles and would post a theme each day. It was a huge hit! The food was just a short set of stairs up and our balcony was perfect (aside from the door needing some elbow grease to open). We loved everything about this trip!
Tell us about the Kayaking
Kayaking was amazing even though we could only have 2 out of 3 participate due to a sickness. The day we chose to kayak was perfect because we didn't do a landing, but I probably would've gone on the zodiacs that day after seeing a whale near them from the distance in the zodiac. I also saw kayakers from the zodiacs and landings when I thought how I'd rather be in the kayaks that day. I wish there was some way of knowing which areas would be better for kayaking so I could decide on my day, but overall it was great.
Something Else?
Everything was set up perfectly from Polar Latitudes and Swoop and I am so thankful for everything this trip has done for me mentally and emotionally. I will be back!
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Load up on the elderberry prior to the trip (which I did but still caught a touch of something from mom and brother), visit the on ship doctor at the start of any symptoms (and convince your roommates to do the same so you can actually get some sleep too), wear the sunscreen and facial protection they advise! You will need it!
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Lifechanging. Almost impossible to explain in words and photos don't do it justice.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Amazing team! Super accounting and everything is planned out!
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
10/10 for both excited and preparedness (still unsure of what to expect even though we read everything and had all the gear). Wish I would've packed one more set of layers for an extra day but could've easily opted for laundry services midtrip.
