What was your most memorable moment?
I participated in the immersive kayaking and it was amazing to say the least. We were a group of 10 with 2 guides so were able to get to know this group pretty well. Of course, the entire trip was pretty incredible, the people, the scenery, the wildlife. Out Expedition team shared their expertise and I learned so much. Was there one memorable moment, hmmm, the entire voyage was memorable.

Tell us about the expedition team
The entire Expedition Team was outgoing and fun, yet kept our safety first. They each had an important role and did that well, plus they integrated into the guests, hanging out at dinner, dancing with us all. Always sharing their knowledge. The lectures were all very informative. I participated in the Citizen Science and hope I was able to contribute to the Drake bird identifying project. These were great presentations with results toward the end of the voyage. I enjoyed the History lecture and the Shackleton lecture and discussion. The team members that stood out were our two immersive Kayak guides Danny Finer and Gerardo - outstanding . Dan Brown whose knowledge of the bird species was phenomenal. Cruise Director Laura was on top of all the details and that was appreciated. Conne the assistant cruise director was also able to keep us updated.
Tell us about the Seaventure
I was a bit concerned about getting a cabin mate, but it worked out so well. The cabins were a decent size and we had plenty pf room to store things. Comfortable cabin. I would go on the is ship again.
Tell us about the Kayaking
This was the best ever! What a great way to see all the wildlife and landscape up close from the water view. One day we had so many whales that we didn't know where to look next. The thousands of penguins were so fun. I would definitely recommend the immersive kayaking. I dressed in layers of Moreno and stayed very warm and not over heated. We tried to go out 8 times and wen out 6 and were able to kayak 5 times for at least 2 - 2.5 hours in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Tell us about Buenos Aires
The highlight was the city tour. I was glad that was suggested. My hotel in the Palermo district was very nice and close to everything. I walked to the Eco Park and the Botanical Gardens.
Tell us about Ushuaia
In Ushuaia if you don't like the weather, stay tuned it will change! Just be prepared I had a down jacket on most of the time. walked everywhere. Enjoyed beers at the Patagonia Brewery that has some good views. Everyone was very friendly and I can't wait to return.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Read some of the books that Swoop sends out on the reading list and expand from there. I felt that reading about the pretty incredible journeys of the brave people, ok men, that sailed to Antarctica in the 19th & 20th Centuries was pretty wild. I also read more modern adventure books that gave me an idea of the scope of the ice. It will prepared you with knowing about this amazing place. Clothing - No jeans, a waste of packing space. casual on the ship, layers, tee shirts, etc. For outside on the ship and especially kayaking. I had 3 layers on the top and 3 on the bottom. Moreno wool socks and I found some socks called Heat Holder thermal socks that fit well and I used them only for kayaking.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Of course it changed how I look at our world. This actually started when I was booking the trip as my reading and searches took me in many directions. I have been digesting the terms "Climate Change and "Global Warming", and I learned they are not the same. The wildlife live is such extreme conditions so the more we can do NOW to protect their life is important. Next steps educate others. I mentioned this on the ship, but appreciated that the ship did not use plastic. Or if any very little.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
I did feel prepared. I kept saying to myself "pinch me" this is so surreal.
