Yes
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Excellent
Tell us about the expedition team
Excellent. Pro tip, though. Sometimes (often?) we would probably rather listen to the sounds of ice cracking, penguins calling, seals barking etc than hear yet another factoid (a penguin’s wings weigh this many grams). There’s a time and a place and also just a critical mass of little facts. I think most guests don’t want to hear all of that all the time.
Tell us about the Greg Mortimer
Very comfortable. Showing a little wear, but not a big deal.
Tell us about the Snow shoeing & Hiking
Our guides were great. They were very experienced, so I knew we were in safe hands even on glaciated terrain. One guide in particular was my kind of people (Hi, Bron!) This is where corporate aurora failed us, though. There was a virus on the ship, and most of the passengers and even a good amount of guides got sick, including both of the snowshoe guides. This caused us to only have three outings instead of a planned six or seven. That’s not the guides’ fault, of course. But, aurora refused to give even a $45 refund (I think the whole program was $300-$400), which seems crazy and greedy to me. Other passengers felt the same way. I think kayakers had 20 outings or something, and we had 3. It feels like aurora stole money from us, and that doesn’t sit right. They did try to give a credit toward a future cruise, but it expires in a year, and I don’t want to cruise / can’t. Somehow this huge company can’t provide even a tiny refund for an experience I paid for but didn’t get? And on a trip I spent nearly $30,000? That’s wild. I hope someone at corporate sees this and makes some changes. Again, we’re fully prepared for weather to interrupt plans, but they could’ve had more guides as a contingency plan (like they do for kayaking), and thus we could have snow shoed.
Something Else?
The last day of operations we were told to clean out our mud room lockers because staff would be cleaning our muck boots. This was announced at 2:00 pm. I was having my one and only massage (excellent massage) on board at that time until about 3:30. So I proceeded to the mud room afterward, still in my robe. Well, my personal belongings were gone. Long story short, an expedition guide came to my room and said, oh, if you don’t immediately get your stuff out, we throw it in a pile somewhere else. This again seems crazy. No one said that was the policy, and in fact the ship staff had to initiate a search for my stuff. So, they should either change that really crazy policy, or tell people if they don’t immediately get their belongings they will be placed in xyz designated place. Instead I had a wild goose chase for my stuff for hours. Why? Does aurora care? Probably not!
