Tell us about Zodiac excursions
I felt safe. There was only one excursion we missed due to weather and choppy seas. I really enjoyed the kayaking.
Tell us about the expedition team
Each person was knowledgeable and friendly. They helped each other out, also. Laura was the main person who did the announcements, and she greeted us each morning over the intercom.
Tell us about the Seaventure
The food was most excellent. Every meal was delicious. The cabin stewards were friendly, professional, and helpful. The meeting areas were large, but yet cozy. I would choose and recommend this ship again.
Tell us about the Kayaking
I absolutely loved the kayaking. I would do it again, and definitely recommend it.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
The weather changes extremely and frequently. Be prepared for the most cold weather, then if nice, you can remove clothing. The zodiacs are fun, but not especially comfortable. Our cruise only missed one excursion out of 8, but this is not the norm. Be prepared to miss more depending on weather and safety. Drake’s passage is really, really rough. Take more seasickness meds than you think you need.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
My perspective has changed, for the better. The vastness and beauty and serenity in Antarctica is like no other place on earth. We need to do what we can to protect it and keep it like it is as much as possible, knowing the difference between climate change and global warming.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Educating the vacationers more about weather changes, possible missed excursions, and rough two days down and back through the passage would be helpful.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
I was so excited, and the trip exceeded expectations, but t not as prepared for Drake’s passage lol
