Tell us about the expedition team

I can’t thank the expedition staff more! I think I talked to at least 20 of them and they were all amazing! I want to offer special shoutouts to Gilda, Julie, Erin, Kelly and Emily!! They all went out of their way for me and truly made my Antarctica trip that much more special! Quark is super lucky to have them as a part of the team! It’s the amazing Quark team that made me book my next trip to the Arctic with Quark!

Tell us about the Kayaking

I couldn’t recommend the sea kayaking program more! It gives you a unique experience and perspective when you get to kayak in Antarctica waters and see wild life and icebergs up close!! Special shoutout to Kelly and Matt who were our kayak guides!! They were both so awesome and our kayaking group felt like a family while onboard!!

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

The first tip I have is to do research on what type of Antarctica trip you’d like!! The trips are different lengths, go to different destinations and some offer different perks like Heli flightseeing and crossing the Antarctica circle!! The second tip I have is to not over pack!! I went in March which was summer and the weather isn’t as cold as people think, a couple layers plus a park is usually more than enough!! Lastly, keep an open mind!! The weather in Antarctica changes so quick so the itinerary can change at any point!! Keep a true expedition mind set!

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

It definitely has changed my perspective because I realized once I got the taste of polar travel that it now makes me want to not just come back to Antarctica but visit the Arctic which is what I’m planning for 2027!! It truly opens your eyes and makes you understand that places like Antarctica exist and are amazing to see!! I usually like to stick with itineraries but this expedition taught me to go with the flow and embrace the true expedition mindset by enjoying the moment and my time in Antarctica and not focus strictly on the itinerary!!

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I want to thank Colin, Sarah Orson and Jody!! They were so great at answering any questions I had and made sure I was fully prepared for my trip!! They were incredible to deal with and I can’t thank them enough!!
