Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Mind-blowing to see wildlife and landscapes up close and personal. Loved one particular cruise where we watched a leopard seal (TRY to) hunt penguins. During that same cruise, we saw an iceberg collapse!
Tell us about the expedition team
Loved everyone. You can feel their passion for Antarctica and for what they do. In particular, MIKE and JEFF were incredibly accessible, patient, and willing to go the extra mile. LOVED our kayak guides, Sophie and Ewan. Wow, they're real superstars who spoiled us with some incredible paddles.
Tell us about the Magellan Explorer
The ship was beautiful. I always thought bigger and better ships were the way to go. But this small ship provided the best stateroom I ever had. The food was good, for sure, and the staff there was always so friendly and accommodating. I'd definitely sail the Magellan Explorer again, given the chance.
Tell us about the Kayaking
INCREDIBLE. See my notes for the Expedition Team. But yes, it was a essential part of my voyage and my overall experience of Antarctica.
Something Else?
I did the polar plunge! WOO HOO!
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Take your time getting there. Santiago was lovely and I wish we could've spent more time there before heading down to Punta Arenas.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I'm still digesting it all, but definitely.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
The only thing is that I think we overpacked. A21 provided water bottles and waterproof bags, and we brought both of those things. I think some info about what they give you would've been helpful.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
So excited. Prepared gear-wise, but nothing could've prepared me emotionally/cognitively.
