Tell us about Zodiac excursions
The zodiac cruises were terrific. I was under the impression that we were going to get wet, along with cameras etc., and I spent a lot of time making sure everything was waterproof. However, I never got wet (barely a splash) and the waterproof covers for gear were not necessary.
Tell us about the expedition team
Every single one of them was terrific -- personable, knowledgeable, friendly and fun!
Tell us about the Ortelius
The ship itself was fairly basic -- no frills or luxuries. However, it more than met my needs and was very comfortable. The food was delicious and the entire staff of the ship (sailing staff, restaurant staff and housekeeping staff) were superb.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
You need 2 sets of outerwear: for cold weather (insulated waterproof ski pants and parka) and for not so cold weather {it was in the 30sF everyday] (waterproof lightweight pants and jacket). Then, just bring however many layers you want to go under each of these.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
I would like it to be easier to contact someone with questions.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
Pretty well, but I didn't realize it would be so warm.
