What was your most memorable moment?

This is difficult as my adventure was filled with many memorable moments...but the first day after flying in will remain indelibly in my memories. We had cruised for 21 hours south in rough seas (at least for sea sick me it was rough!) That day I set foot on the continent of Antarctica, it was windy, snowy and blustery, everything I anticipated Antarctica should be! The gusting wind forced us to take a knee to avoid being blown over as we climbed up a small hill to our first penguin colony. That experience was quickly followed by our first whale citing during our zodiac back to the ship. But it was not one whale, oh no, it was 5 whales with a tremendous flock of birds hovering above tracking the leftover krill. You would think it would be difficult to beat this day but each day was as special in its own way as Antarctica shared its wonders with us!

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

DO IT!

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

It is just sinking in now as I have returned home and the expedition is 2 weeks past that I was in F'ing Antarctica. Nature constantly amazes me and draws me to many adventures I have taken. The vastness and wildness that IS Antarctica is the only thing that can dwarf the experience and memories I hold.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Your recommendations were spot on. Antarctica 21 is a 1st rate expedition team, their entire staff was professional, genuine and friendly. They worked to make the experience the best that it could possibly be. The only hitch I experienced is at the Punta Arenas hotel, Cabo de Hornos. One of members of my party left a small luggage bag behind upon departure. Upon our return to the hotel, post expedition, the bag was returned after a bit of interaction with the hotel staff but unfortunately the cash that had been it is was stolen. Obviously, I would not recommend continued use of this hotel when the staff is dishonest. This reflects poorly on Swoop and Antarctica 21. For the volume of business that both of the companies provide to the hotel I feel that better measures for your guests could be instituted.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

Very! The pre-trip literature and videos provided were exceptionally helpful. If anything I think I was over prepared! The loaner boots were fabulous, not a day of cold or wet toes. To be completely honest, Antarctica, as a destination was not my choice. I think I would have probably gone North for a polar expedition but this was my daughter's choice and it exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds.
