What was your most memorable moment?

We were sitting in the lecture theatre listening to the speaker and a whale came up and jumped right outside the window super close to the boat. My husband was so excited he shrieked with happiness.

Tell us about the Camping

We didn't get to go so I can't speak to the experience but I do think that there needs to be some type of screener for this activity. There were some people that had never used a sleeping bag?!? I know the expedition leaders made the decision to cancel based on weather and with information not available to the passengers, but it felt like they cancelled because of the people with literally zero camping experience not the people (like us) who have experience winter camping in -30. A little sleet and rain never hurt any one.

Tell us about the wildlife

Amazing. We saw a baby chick on our last day. There were so many whales. Just look out the window and you'll see one eventually!

Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?

Yes

Tell us about the expedition team

They were extremely knowledgeable. I really enjoyed their talks and the information they provided. We especially loved Ian's talks. Each expeditioner had a unique background which added to the trip in different ways. They really made the experience exceptional. I can't imagine it without them.

Tell us about the Sylvia Earle

Cabin was great. We loved the big windows for viewing the whales and birds. The bar was hit or miss. They didn't know how to make the most basic cocktails even the ones on the menu. They would sometimes tell you they were out of something/didn't have it even when you could see it on the shelf for example, a specific brand of gin. We ended up sticking to beer and wine because of it. Generally, the food was good. Although we prefer to dine alone, we did enjoy many of our shared dining experiences. Our one pain points was that if you were seated with a group that had already ordered, there was a good chance you'd get forgotten about and wait a long time to get served.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

We really liked them and did feel safe at all times. We got to stand on an iceberg! We did think we would do more whale watching from the zodiacs and not just from the ship.

Something Else?

We had an absolutely amazing time! Any negative feedback is just because I want to provide constructive criticism to make it even better for the next people who get to go on this unforgettable trip.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

We were really nervous for the crossing - sea sickness, bordom - but there was no need! There were lots of great talks and we didn't feel sick at all.

Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?

I felt like we had to submit they same information a few times. I know our flights kept changing so that likely added to the confusion and need to submit things multiple times.
