Tell us about the wildlife

Best encounter with penguins was the final day. If you sat down, some of the more curious youngsters would come up to you and check you out. Made for some memorable pictures.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

We typically did kayaks instead of Zodiacs, but the Zodiac trips were all excellent. They were well organized and well led. I felt safe at all times.

Tell us about the expedition team

The kayak leaders -- Frank, Daniel, and Eamon -- were very professional and very helpful.

Tell us about the Greg Mortimer

It's good to take a exhibition trip on a purpose-built ship. Everything about the ship is designed to make expeditions -- kayak, Zodiac, whale-watching, etc. -- easy. The food was surprisingly good, with many choices, each expertly prepared. We were surprised that there were so many fresh vegetables and fruit.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Brace yourself for all of the Covid-related tests, forms, QR codes, and other hoops to jump through.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Better appreciation of Antarctica.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I know that it is a lot to ask, but given that the Swoop team is in a very different time zone, it would be helpful if they would reply to emails outside of normal working hours.

Would you be interested in travelling to The Arctic with Swoop?

Yes

Would you be interested in travelling to Patagonia with Swoop?

No

Would you consider another trip to Antarctica with Swoop?

No

Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?

There are so many tests, forms, and QR codes that are part of the trip, it would be helpful if Swoop had been more explicit as to everything that we needed to take the trip. It would have been helpful, for example, to be told, "You will need to get a 'Mobility Pass' before you leave for Chile. It looks like this and can be printed out in a hard copy or kept on your phone as a screen shot. You need to fill out this form [URL] to get it and you are going to need the following items to correctly fill out the form". Or Swoop could have told us, "You are going to need to get a negative PCR test no sooner than 72 hours before you arrive in Chile. Since you will be arriving in Chile on Wednesday, February 23rd, you will need to get a test no sooner than Sunday, February 20th. Make sure that your test provider will give you the results in PDF form before you leave, because the the airline you are taking to Chile will need to see them before you board the plane, and the Immigration people in Santiago will need to see them to let you into the country."
