Island Sky

Overall, how was your trip?

To many highlights to mention. The weather could change almost in an instant, changing the light and the landscape before your eyes, completely captivating. Lots of wildlife despite being late in the season, and being later we saw lots of whales. The ships crew and the expedition crew were exceptional. There were 98 passengers on board the Island Sky and we were surprised by the age range, 22 to 78 with an average of 62 (this must be accident rather than design) but it made for a wonderful atmosphere with people prepared to mix in chat, and eat together. We hope to meet up with a few in the future. Most magical moment, that's difficult, probably being in a Zodiac among sleeping Humpbacks.

In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?

Truly the trip of a lifetime, it exceeded all expectations, (and they were inevitably high) the place gets right into your very soul.

Would you visit again?

Yes

How was the service that Swoop provided?

Definitely pleased with the advice of polar specialist John, he listened to what we wanted, chatted over alternatives, and recommended the ship's operator and the Island Sky. It was absolutely the right trip for us. The Island Sky suited us perfectly, small enough to be intimate, large enough to provide excellent service and comfort. Because we booked early we had a cabin upgrade with a door onto the promenade deck - excellent! Swoop kept us informed at all times, always happy to deal with queries, the whole thing was pretty much seamless. You may have realised we are now Swoop fans.

You chose a/an South Georgia, Antarctica and Falklands Luxury Explorer experience. How was that experience?

Truly the experience of a lifetime, it was absolutely the correct choice for us. With 98 passengers it seemed the perfect number, the ship had an amazing crew and produced excellent food and comfort. Would definitely recommend this trip, we were so well looked after. The expedition crew led by Nate Small were very knowledgable and able to pass that on with good humour, able to change the schedules to suit conditions keeping everyone informed all the time.

If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?

Everything worked as it should we were met and transferred as expected, your suggestion of a taxi tour of Buenos Aires to use up the time between airports was great, gave us a few clues for when we returned after Antarctica. Would highly recommend the Recolette Grand Hotel, very comfortable, good food, good location.

How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?

Too many highlights to mention most trips had their own. Difficult to say what we enjoyed most - probably being among sleeping Humpbacks in Orne Harbour. Fantastic wildlife, Birds and animals we will not see anywhere else, Leopard Seals close enough to the Zodiac to touch (not recommended! Did you see those teeth?!) We had some wonderful calm sunny days around the icebergs, the light and colour were wonderful. We could not have asked for a better expedition crew knowledgable friendly-brilliant.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Use a specialist like Swoop. These trips are costly, do some research and decide exactly what you want from the experience
